Intertexuality

Intertextuality is taking other peoples ideas that they have used and putting them into your own work.

For example in Katy Perry's music video for 'California Girls' the whole video is made up of sweets and like a land that has never been seen before. This links in to "Charlie and the chocolate factory' and "Alice in Wonderland", as they are both very mysterious places and no one ever really gets to go there and thats just the same as the sweet world that Katy Perry goes to.

Another example of intertextuality is when Madonna incorperated Marilyn Monroe's Gentleman prefer blonde's pictures in her 1980's hit music video Material Girl. The picture of Marilyn shows her dressed in pink with man surrounding her and in the Madonna video the exact same thing is happening to her but you can only see the mens hands. This shows how Madonna is inspired by Marilyns work and how show looks so she wanted to incorerate it into her own video.

An example of intertexuality that we will use in our music video is the scene in Love Actually where they are at the airport waiting for their loved ones to come home. We are going to use this but we will film the scene in a train station to try and get the same effect. We wanted to use this as when your watching the film 'love actually' you can almost feel th elove that they have their for their loved ones and want to be able to incorperate this into our video.

  1. You need more examples of intertextuality and you MUST include pictures / clips to back up your points and make it visual for the examiner
